A690 Youth Initiative info
The A690 Youth Initiative Project is based within the Sandhill Centre purpose built 'youth facility', and has been established as an independent charitable organisation. The aim is to provide youth provision for young people within the areas of Farringdon, Plains Farm, Springwell, Thorney Close and Grindon.
Catholic Youth Centre info
The Catholic Youth Centre has been running in Hendon for 32 years attracting young members aged 11-25 primarily from Hendon and the Sunderland’s East End. Although originally set up to serve the Catholic population, the centre is open to all and is currently undergoing a feasibility study to help establish its new identity and direction for the New Year.
Hendon Young People’s Project info
Hendon Young People’s Project (HYPP), which was launched in 1979, caters for over 500 young people aged 5 – 25 throughout the Hendon and Sunderland East End area providing a range of activities for both junior and youth groups.
Herrington Burn YMCA info
Established over 40 years ago, the YMCA Herrington Burn provides a comprehensive programme of activities and services to young people within Houghton-le-Spring and the surrounding community, including a School Inclusion Programme for young people who experience problems with mainstream education, a senior citizen luncheon club and Y Housing – a housing service for young people with specific housing related needs. The YMCA also receives support from the City of Sunderland Youth Service.
Lambton Street Fellowship Centre info
Launched in 1901, the Lambton Street Fellowship Centre is the oldest youth project in the Forum and is still continuing to evolve, most recently with the opening of a brand new £1 million purpose built centre based in Sunderland’s Low Ford area, which caters for young people aged 11 to 25.
Oxclose & District Young People’s Project info
Based in Washington’s Ayton Village, the Oxclose and District Young People’s Project is designed to help young people aged 11 – 24 across the Lambton, Ayton, Blackfell and Oxclose areas and takes a holistic approach.
Pennywell Youth Project info
The Pennywell Youth Project, which started in 1979, offers a broad range of social, vocational and recreational activities for young people under 25 throughout the Sunderland West area. All the activities are designed to offer learning opportunities within an informal environment, where young people can improve their skills and self-confidence and gain ownership of their projects.
Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project info
Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project (SNYP), which started in 1979, is an entirely user-led centre where young people are given the responsibility and freedom to shape its programme of activities. Situated on the central Southwick Road, the project provides an informal atmosphere and warm welcome for 8-25 year olds from the local area.

The Box Youth Project info
The Box Youth project was set up in 2001 to serve the Sunderland South area and has undergone significant development during the last three years. Covering Doxford Park, Moorside, Hall Farm, Chapelgarth and Mill Hill – a district previously lacking in this type of support for young people – the Box Youth Project is also the first of its kind in this area, with 123 members so far.
Young Asian Voices info
Sunderland’s Young Asian Voices project, which was set up 13 years ago, has over 100 registered members in and around the Hendon area, catering specifically for the young members of the local Asian community – many of which do not find it easy to access other mainstream youth projects.
